In October, the automotive market in Uzbekistan experienced a notable decline in activity, particularly in the passenger car segment, where annual sales figures saw a significant drop. In contrast, the electric vehicle segment is showing growth.

According to data from the Center for Economic Research and Reforms, 102.3 thousand vehicles were sold in October, which is 7% lower compared to September and 44% below the level of October last year.

Decline in passenger car sales

In the passenger car segment, 95.4 thousand units were sold in October, which is 6% lower than the previous month. Year-on-year, sales fell by 43.3%. The most significant decline in sales in this segment was recorded in Tashkent (–18.4%), as well as in the Fergana (–17%) and Andijan regions (–14.4%).

Primary market: decrease in demand for new cars

In October, sales in the primary market decreased by 15% compared to September — 6.2 thousand fewer cars were sold than the previous month. Year-on-year, activity dropped by 21.8%. Sales of domestically produced new cars decreased by 20% over the month, totaling 30.2 thousand vehicles, which is also 22% lower than last year’s figures.

Foreign cars gaining popularity

Sales of foreign-made passenger cars showed an increase — demand rose by 35% over the month, with 4.7 thousand units sold. However, compared to last year, activity in this segment fell by 20%.

Slowdown in the secondary market

In October, the secondary market for passenger cars also experienced a decline in activity: 60.4 thousand cars were sold, which is just 23 cars fewer than in September, but twice as low as the level of October last year.

Electric vehicles are leading in growth dynamics

The electric vehicle segment continued to grow rapidly in October. Sales of electric cars increased by 20% compared to September, totaling 5.1 thousand units. Regionally, Namangan and Fergana regions, as well as Tashkent, demonstrated the highest sales growth. Over the year, activity in the electric vehicle market increased by 87.5%, corresponding to a growth of 2.3 thousand cars.
