The President of Uzbekistan has outlined goals to boost employment and foster the development of new industries in the Navoi region.

On December 7, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a meeting to discuss the effective utilization of additional resources in the Navoi region, strategies for increasing employment levels, and attracting investments.
Президент Узбекистана поставил цели по повышению занятости и развитию новых отраслей в Навоийской области.

The Navoi region is an area with significant potential in infrastructure, industry, and natural resources. Over the past seven years, $8 billion in investments has been attracted to the region, resulting in the implementation of 6,500 projects. In 2024, the completion of 577 projects totaling $2.2 billion is set to conclude.

During the previous visit of the head of state to the Navoi region, directives were issued for further economic development and the exploration of new growth avenues. The current meeting discussed proposals prepared in accordance with these instructions.

In particular, new industrial enterprises are planned to be established on pasture lands near the chemical technology park in the Karmanin district. Thanks to the developed infrastructure and the availability of raw materials, projects for the production of kaolin, quartz, silicon dioxide, and textile dyes could be realized here as early as next year.

Chinese investors are interested in the extraction and processing of quartz and granite in the Khatyrchin district, and the development of 11 deposits in the Kanimekh, Navbakhor, and Uchkuduk districts is also being considered.

On the territory of 150 hectares around Lake Aydarkul, recreational zones for 10,000 tourists are planned, which will create 200 jobs. In the Nuratin and Khatyrchin districts, 200 family guesthouses will be organized in the villages of Sentob, Langar, and Angidon, attracting up to 600,000 tourists annually and providing employment for 500 people.

The Navoi region contains 43% of the country's pasture lands, yet only 5% is utilized. To improve this situation, feed, medicinal, and spice crops will be sown on 350,000 hectares using drones. These lands will be allocated to local residents. Additionally, goat and sheep farming will be developed in the Tamdinsky and Uchkuduk districts.

It has been noted that Tamdy and Nurata have the potential for producing building materials, livestock farming, and tourism, while the Khatyrchin district specializes in the textile industry and horticulture. Therefore, a laboratory for the certification of organic products is planned, and intensive gardens and vineyards will be established on 500 hectares. Similar projects are also planned in Navbakhor on 200 hectares.

There are plans to stimulate the production of in-demand market products. To this end, Italian sunflower seeds will be imported from Italy and planted on 10,000 hectares as a secondary crop. This will create additional income for 5,000 residents, while the oil produced will fully meet the region's annual needs.

In the first 11 months of 2024, 111,000 people have been employed in the Navoi region. In 2025, it is planned to provide employment for 140,000 individuals and lift 10,000 families out of poverty.

During the meeting, the governor of the Navoi region presented plans to attract $2 billion in investments and increase exports to $320 million by 2025. The head of state emphasized that these goals do not align with the region's actual potential and instructed a review of the proposed plans.

It was noted during the meeting that new projects should primarily be implemented in the Kanimekh, Nuratin, Khatyrchin, and Tamdinsky districts. Training for the unemployed in modern professions is planned, along with the provision of high-paying jobs both domestically and abroad. It was emphasized that despite its relatively small population, the Navoi region has the potential to become a region free of unemployment.
