Residents of Uzbekistan will have the opportunity to witness a captivating celestial event — the Ursid meteor shower. The peak activity of this sky spectacle will occur on the night of December 21 to 22.
According to Live Science, it is expected that during this period, up to ten meteors per hour may be visible. Astronomers recommend choosing a location away from city lights to better observe the falling stars.
The optimal time for viewing is after midnight when the Moon is low on the horizon and does not wash out the sky. Additionally, binoculars or telescopes should not be used for observation, as they narrow the field of view and increase the chances of missing a meteor flash.
The Ursids are a meteor shower that occurs when the Earth passes through a trail of dust particles left by the Tuttle comet. As these particles burn up in the Earth's atmosphere, they create bright flashes that we refer to as meteors. The Tuttle comet completes an orbit around the Sun every 13.6 years. The most brilliant and powerful Ursids were observed in 1945, 1973, and 1986.
