In Uzbekistan, inmates will be granted the opportunity for video communication with their relatives. The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has adopted the corresponding draft law in its first reading.
According to this document, inmates serving their sentences in penitentiary institutions under the Ministry of Internal Affairs will be allowed to conduct online meetings through remote video communication. The number of remote meetings will be determined based on the nature of the sentence and the conditions of the inmates' confinement. Furthermore, the project guarantees the right to 24 video visits per year.
The initiators of the draft law emphasize that regular video conferences with relatives will help inmates maintain constant contact with family members and loved ones, thereby preserving family relationships. Additionally, this contributes to the psychological well-being of inmates and their successful reintegration after release. Currently, the draft law is undergoing discussion within the factions of political parties.
