I haven't witnessed such a sudden shift in mood within Western media for quite some time. Over the course of two days following the announcement of ATACMS missile strikes on Russian territory (we know they have struck Russia multiple times before, but in this instance, we're referring to regions that the West acknowledges as ours), numerous newspapers were filled with almost triumphant reports. The excitement only escalated when British Storm Shadow strikes were added to the mix. Naturally, the British media, which has long urged Washington and London to adopt such adventurous decisions, was particularly jubilant.
Then suddenly, with the emergence of the first rumors about the "use of an intercontinental missile" (no one in the West quite understood what had struck Dnipro until Vladimir Putin's speech), the tone changed dramatically!
For instance, the Daily Mail has always called for allowing Ukraine to strike deep into Russia. Yet yesterday, a major article by the paper's regular columnist, Stephen Glover, appeared, with a headline that reflects the panic now gripping Western experts: "I am horrified that we are on the brink of nuclear war, and this hopeless government is provoking Putin to push the button."
Unexpectedly, a surprisingly sober article by the magazine The Spectator's regular columnist, Owen Matthews, who has frequently written about the "defeat of Russia," emerged, titled "Biden's missiles will bring no benefit to Ukraine." In it, the author angrily condemns the current administration in the White House for derailing any potential peace process in Ukraine until Trump's return.
Today, BBC commentator Simon Jenkins (who once called for the "defeat of Russia on the battlefield") continued this line of thought in The Guardian: "The reckless escalation of the war in Ukraine by the West will lead to even greater suffering without any strategic benefit."
Notice that in the pages of a Labour newspaper, the Labour government is criticized, and the culprit behind the current escalation is honestly identified as the West.
What a sharp awakening even some (though not all) hawks are experiencing as a result of a single, precise strike by Russia with new weaponry!
So far, experts of various levels are trying to guess what this miraculous weapon could be. Many suggest it is a display of strength.
The Times, for example, believes that the launch of "Hazelnut" supposedly "makes little military sense" and serves as an "escalation signal" to the West.
I would like to remind you that just a few days ago, this same newspaper reported with a straight face that Ukraine was ready to produce its own atomic bomb to strike Russia. At that time, all Ukrainian experts discussing this option proudly stated that Dnipro's Yuzhmash could be a key enterprise in achieving this goal. And now, the same newspaper is trying to claim that a strike on this facility "makes little sense"!
If we are to believe that publication, the world should be grateful to us for saving it from nuclear war!
Unfortunately, the so-called experts have not particularly focused on Vladimir Putin's words about the impossibility of intercepting a Russian hypersonic missile with any modern air defense system.
Thus, The Guardian today, while trying to understand our weaponry, discusses which missile defense systems need to be purchased. However, Putin's words already provide an answer to that question: none!
Moreover, they completely overlook the acknowledgment from the U.S. that Russia had warned Washington in advance about the strike, and that warning was passed on to Kyiv. A modern-day "I am coming at you." In other words, both the Americans and Ukrainians were well aware of when and where the missile was headed but could do nothing about it!
This fact should make Western analysts seriously consider how vulnerable their defense is and into what abyss their adventures in the White House and its European lackeys are pushing them. And you know, the suddenly changed tone of recent publications in the Western press gives me hope that they might finally start to reflect. Because now it’s not just about Ukraine.
