In the title match, the Indian grandmaster defeated the reigning world champion, 32-year-old Chinese player Ding Liren, with a score of 7.5 to 6.5.
At the post-match press conference, Gukesh expressed his gratitude towards his opponent: "We all know who Ding is; he has been one of the best players in the world for several years, and to me, he is a true world champion."
Gukesh also mentioned that his opponent had not been in the best form over the past two years, but he fought like a true champion.
It’s worth noting that by winning the title of the youngest world champion in chess history, the Indian player surpassed the record of Soviet and Russian chess player Garry Kasparov, who became the world champion at the age of 22 in 1985.
